Don’t know if you have issues around food or not- according to Lysa Terkeurst, women especially struggle here- even Eve did in the Garden! If your own hangup looks a little different from most of us “daughters of Eve,” you will still get so much out of this conversation.
My friend Lee, has experienced real victory over eating disorders and sees food in a whole new way after a few years of recovery under her belt; can’t wait for you to hear some of her story.
We met at Celebrate Recovery – a ministry modeled after Alcoholics Anonymous but the big difference is it’s a biblical and balanced program that helps us overcome our hurts, hang-ups, and habits. And it’s based on the actual words of Jesus rather than psychological theory.
If you’d like more information on Celebrate Recovery group near you, they’re easy to find. Really, we’re all in recovery from something… since we’re still….. here.
Today, we touch on my issues w/Codependency, Self worth and my own eating disorder. Lee and I both finally learned in CR to be like little children while allowing God to “reparent” each of us. Many of us didn’t really know how to be children before Jesus…. Was it like that for you?
Lee’s favorite Bible Study is one you and I have heard countless times here. In fact, I’d say maybe a third of the women I’ve interviewed over the last 2 years have named this same study as their number one. Can you guess which study I’m talking about?
Lee also explains her “When/Then Syndrome” – which I believe are words to live by as we’re turning the page on a new year….She passes on some really empowering words she learned from her mentor- great for you if you are going through some kind of trial (and really, who isn’t???) She explains that trial can be more than just a time to survive but to thrive; you and I can actually come out more than conquerors with plunder.
She depicts how community is key in recovery, healing and in naming your spiritual gifts and calling. We also talk about what real bravery looks like. And Lee is living proof that it is possible to experience healing and freedom and wholeness this side of Heaven. There is such a thing as an “earthly promised land” (to borrow from Beth Moore) where we can know TRUE joy!
