Ep 55-“Real Women Need a Few Good Women” Lane Harbin
We’re a little late getting this week’s episode posted- been having too much fun in the snow…. It’s a rarity around these parts so ya gotta get out in it while ya got it!!!
If you’ve ever wondered if having a mentor is a good idea, I’m here to tell you the answer is “Yes.” Whether you’re trying to make a big decision like who to marry or which job/career/field to choose or whatever, having someone older and wiser walking just ahead of you, playing the role of your guide- is always beneficial.
My kindred-spirit-friend will tell us why that is today. Lane Harbin is a deep well and wise beyond her years – even though I got a few on her…. :-0) I appreciate her choice of words, so when she informed me she was an English major, I was not surprised.
She’ll tell us about the paradigm shift she had after a conversation (or a hundred) with her mentor/guide on a topic that is near and dear to my heart- marriage.
Lane was in love with Thomas; he was her best friend. But she didn’t want to marry him after 2 and a half years of dating because she was sure that would turn him into her worst enemy. She admits marriage is hard, but she also has a deep assurance that it’s worth the work it takes to keep unity. Her mentor has played a huge role in this new way of thinking- which Lane calls a “transformation.”
Her mentor/guide, April, and she continue to live out Titus 2, where Paul exhorted mature, experienced Christ followers to fan the flame of faith in the next generation. I’m so thankful that Lane sought the courage she needed OUTSIDE herself to make the life sized decision to marry Thomas, because I love the One these two are together as a couple.
The Harbins are largely to blame (:-0) for this podcast, which is in every way a labor of love for me. I’ve told you before that I’m a survivor of Lyme Disease- This is why I always say podcasting is the thing that’s killing me softly…. As time consuming and energy chomping as it is for me, I LOVE it, love it, love it! (Of course, nothing else gets done around my house……Don’t even THINK about asking me how often the upstairs toilet actually get cleaned….)
The movie Lane recommended is called “Mean Girls.” I still have yet to see it!!! Have you? If not, go watch it— https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewgggaTjx9Q and tell me if you can relate. I got bullied a lot in schools so I know it will push some buttons like “Wonder” did….
Lane’s charity of choice is International Justice Mission. They are doing much good in the way of rescuing and restoring victims of human trafficking in all its evil forms all over the globe. Go donate BIG and become a freedom partner today- https://www.ijm.org/freedom-partner
She’s on twitter as LaneHarbin and every where else…Also, her instagram @lane.harbin is just a delight to behold; a real work of art. It reflects beautifully, her clutter free, minimalist, manner of design.
As I mentioned last week, I will be out of pocket next week bc my hubby got booked to play keys on a cruise and I get to tag along. That’s right- Heylove will be on KLove! Please pray for our adult children who will be here holding the fort down. (The neighbors have been put on alert to watch for flames shooting out any windows….) We will post our next episode on Feb 7th- Hopefully by then, the world will stop swaying…. Do you know any tricks for seasickness? If so, send me a message on insta please????
We’ll kick off SEASON 4 of this podcast with racial reconciliation in mind this Feb- which happens to be Racial Reconcilation Month.
You have been such a faithful support to me. Thank you for the encouraging messages on instagram and facebook! And thank you for the 5 star reviews!!! I am humbled and honored to have your ear for an hour every week.
While we’re away, use the time to catch up on some of our previous episodes! “Light That Shatters Your Darkness” with our Teaching Pastor, Lloyd Shadrach, has gotten some great feedback. That’s Episode 51.
Also, Episode 50 is an extremely popular one! Mary Beth Chapman will make you laugh your head off. (I had thrown my back out the day before that interview so every once in a while, you’ll hear me beg her to stop making me laugh… to no avail….)
I’ll be thinking of you while I’m cruising through the Bahamas! And can’t wait to tell you about another fun project we got cooking’ — SO excited about Heylove Henna! That’s coming soon- just in time for summer!!
Till next time,
(correction: I realize I say “Feb is Racial Reconciliation Month” in this episode but it’s technically called, “Black History Month.” Here’s to hoping that the latter leads to much of the former.)
