During this episode, I’ll expound on my goal for the show- which is to share my experience & my hope in an effort to encourage you along as some thought paradigms start to shift around the way we do “relationships” here in America. Ultimately though, I’m doing it for selfish reasons- I love writing about, listening to and sharing stories of redemption!
Dark Night of the Soul
Against my better PR/Marketing judgement, I’ll share openly with you about my bout with depression. (This is not typically what they tell us to come out with in the beginning….) but it’s a huge piece of my “why” and if it helps you feel less alone in your struggle, I’m all about that.
Medication, as I mention, was one of the things that dug me out of a pit. At the time, it was a channel through which Help came and extended a hand. I grabbed hold and held on. I talk about how, after a while, I tapered off the meds with supervision, so I could be more alert and not so numbed out. Getting help from a counselor and spiritual direction really set me on the right path to healing.
I touch on how Blair and I have actually enjoyed working together on something for the first time in our 24 year marriage! Why people pleasing never works and what opting to NOT get connected in community can lead to. I dream out loud about how awesome it would be if we started small, went deep and reached out to others right where we live.
You’ll hear my lame attempt at imitating an Indian accent, how we listened to vinyl in the late 70’s and how stark the difference was to me as a child watching the women here and the women there.
I bring up the Westminster Confession of Faith which has been like a North Star guiding many of my decisions. “To know God and enjoy Him forever” – holding this, I say, as the center, helps me have clarity in some cases. And I share the only two options an Indian kid has for an occupation.
You’ll hear me talk today and often, about how the Trinity of God is a great example to us of what living interdependently looks like.
We Can Learn From Them
I was invited to a Celebrate Recovery meeting some years ago and mention in this episode how that has been SOOOO helpful in allowing the Spirit to do the deeper work required for deeper healing. (If you have any questions about this program, please find a chapter in your town. They’re all over. And write in to tell me about your experience- I love discussing all things CR.) I also recommend different podcasts and share my one self imposed rule for my self.
Please let me know what relationship topics you’d like to hear more about on our fb page- HeyLOVEpodcast. Bye Love!
