You need a safe place….

Hey Love,

Welcome to the show! Have you heard of spiritual direction? Tim Head is a spiritual director in my town and he gives us some really beautiful pictures of what SD is; what it’s like…. my favorite is “a Calm Center” where you’re setting some time aside and allowing God to speak without interruption.” Yeah….. that’s it exactly.

Tim has been serving full time for the past 8 years as worship pastor at our church in Nashville- Fellowship Bible, and recently, he’s been studying and training to become a director himself. I had the pleasure of playing guinea pig for him early on. Tim will explain to us, how spiritual direction is a lot like fly fishing.

Tim is open about his limp which is vertigo and he’s a 2 on the Enneagram-(we don’t get too deep into Enneagram, but we do touch on it.) Along with his limp, spiritual direction has taught him how to repent of his struggle as a “Helper/burden bearer…”. and repentance for a 2 looks a little different than what is typically heard in Christian circles where we’re sometimes taught to be a door mat… and phrases like “Die to yourself, turn the other cheek” are taken out of context.. it’s an interesting conversation…

This interview was recorded before I lost a parent so as I was listening down there’s a part about how to listen well when someone’s experiencing grief, I thought “Wow, I’m living this out right now…”

Today, Tim and I also relive a most awkward moment in one of our last SD sessions. And he’ll explain why we should not ask the question “Why?” Also, you should know- this episode may just give you a hankering to go stand in a river…..Sounds magical, the way he describes it. Do you have someone in your life who can help show you a “shimmer on the water?”

We are taking a couple of weeks off for Christmas break. I so loved the lingering that happened around here over Thanksgiving and hoping that you get to enjoy some of that with your loves too as things slow down for a bit. Enjoy celebrating your HOPE personified; Jesus. Also, sorry this post is so late! (I kept wondering why it was showing up on my website but not on the podcast app… it’s because I missed a step in the process of uploading it. To borrow Tim’s words today, “You still have a newbie on your hands!) See ya in a couple of weeks! It’ll be 2019! WOW! In the spring, we’ll get to have Cindy Hamilton, Garth Brooks, Jenny Watson…Go ahead and subscribe so you don’t miss a thing.   :-0)

The verse I was trying to think of is found in Jeremiah 33:3. The Message version says it like this; “Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’

Enjoyed being with you today. I knew you’d love hearing from Tim. If you are a ministry leader and would like to contact Tim about SD or if you’d like to make a donation to Standing Stone Ministry, or you’d like to be a monthly supporter for Tim in his ministry, please go to their website standingstoneministry.org and make a generous donation. Tim and his wife Alyssa have a sweet little girl and Baby #2 is on the way :-0) so I know they’d love to hear from you. Just another way for you to live out love.
Till next time,
Bye Love!

What’s Your Limp?

Offering a soul hammock for you, the reflective American woman, as you move to the steady rhythm of God’s unfailing grace, as you navigate your RELATIONSHIPS & heal from past hurts. Any sort of hurt, habit or hangup can cause a “limp” which affects our RELATIONSHIPS with our Maker, with others and with our selves.

What does your limp look like? Mine looks like Lyme (and codependency too.) Here on this show, we’ll have honest conversations about how to courageously cultivate real community & find relational restoration, even with our respective limps.
