Hey Love, I know everyone else is talking about the cheerier side of Christmas, but this is the reality for me. Maybe it is for you, too?
If you feel completely connected and plugged in with people consistently wherever you are, you’re among the few. But you’ll still get a kick hearing about the imposter lady in the mirror at my zumba class whose workout clothes looked a couple of sizes too small… “But wait, those clothes look familiar! They’re from MY closet!!!”
And even if you are not feeling lonely yourself, chances are you probably know someone who deals with loneliness. Or depression, or waves of hopelessness… which are all closely associated to loneliness. Even though it’s not the most popular thing to talk about, it’s the thing that’s been on my heart…..
Today, I imagine you and me sitting in front of my fireplace with something hot to drink and something intoxicatingly aromatic in the oven. Talking about our feelings really does help us process them and gives us a little lift… As I’ve said before, I do this podcast for selfish reasons. 🙂
I’ll talk about my experience with loneliness and how God used it to make me more dependent on Him and is still in the process of healing me of a few things…including, but not limited to, codependence on other humans.
I’ll also talk about the importance of writing down your thoughts and feelings on loneliness to get them “out of your head and onto paper.” And I offer you an update on the Lifeway letter. (By the way, I listened again to that episode after some time away from it and I feel I owe you an apologizy. My reading of that first draft was SOOOO dry and boring. If you made it through, you deserve a cookie. For real!!! And if you didn’t make it through the letter- which, really, who can blame you??? – hopefully you’ll listen to Heidi’s advice which starts at about 8:00 in. That’s Episode 14.)
I’m going solo this week on Episode 15. I’ll challenge you to keep your eyes open for a lonely heart in the checkout line or in the pew next to you because depsite what you hear, church attendance is UP!!!
I’ll read some affirmations over you too. If you’re feeling lonely, repeat after me and soak in these truths. My prayer is that you feel God’s presence WITH you in the middle of the madness. Pass it on to a friend if you think it will lift their chin.

And if ya want to hear the dry boring first draft of the letter I wrote to Lifeway about refusing to carry Amy Grant’s record, listen to Episode 14 “How to Start a Hard Conversation.” If ya wanna just get to the expert, fast forward to 8:00 in, where you’ll hear Heidi Petak offer me tech advice on my own sound equipment. I totally got schooled. 🙂
