We’re up to 50 episodes! And to celebrate, we have with us, the one and only SLAP your knee- funny, captivating, dearly loved- Mary Beth Chapman.
I love the fact that this woman has always had the ability to make me laugh even when I was in the middle of my own tragedy.*
Mary Beth is a great listener and can totally go there with the best of them as far as empathy and sympathy go… On this particular day- when I recently met her for an interview, I had just thrown my back out so I foolishly asked her to please NOT make me laugh. But you know how well that didn’t work! The belly laughing which ensued did me good and it was SO worth the pain I endured.
If you’ve recently had any sort of surgery involving stitches, I’d advise you to not listen to this particular episode till you’re fully recovered because you just might pull something- especially during the outtakes– If you ARE ready for a good, hearty, belly laugh, listen to the very end after the outtro music to hear about the time the Holy Spirit spoke audibly to Mary Beth to keep her from flashing someone she’d mistakenly thought was her husband. Hill. Air. Eeee. Ous.
This heroine of yours and mine- she’s complex like a good wine; she confesses her tendency toward melancholy/depression and at the same time, she laughs with ease and abandon from deep in her soul.
And she is a fierce lioness when it comes to advocating for orphans. We’ll discuss all the things she’s passionate about; Showhope, kids, playing with her grands… Grace, salvation, what it felt like to discover she can’t lose her right standing with God- because of all that was endured by Jesus.
She will share with us the realities of living with loss and finding deep joy in the middle of intense pain. Mary Beth is brutally honest about what it’s been like watching her son Will Franklin be carried from unimaginable, unspeakable suffering to overwhelming head to toe joy… and she holds firm to the belief that the time she’ll spend with daughter Maria (who passed from life to LIFE nearly a decade ago) in the future world, will far outlast the short vapor she’s living here on earth.
Her book is called, “Choosing to See” and it is an absolute page turner. Her account of the time she accidentally mooned a group of tourists on the Nile River is one of my all time favorite stories in print anywhere. Ever. You must read this book!!! http://amzn.to/2BfRnMB
This is one amazing matriarch and the redemption of this remarkable family glows for miles and miles, all around the globe.
If you haven’t heard the Chapman boys lately, go check out Colony House. Mary Beth is their biggest cheerleader but this ain’t ya little “Aww, isn’t that sweet?” boy band. Trust me, you’ll love this music, even if you’re not a big rock fan. And what ever you do, drop everything to watch all Colony House videos the first chance ya get!!! http://amzn.to/2ATOwq0
Mary Beth attributes her grasp of grace to Pastor Scotty Smith. Here’s one book by Scotty I’d highly recommend; http://amzn.to/2iXf1T5
and here’s a sermon Scotty preached too; “Sola Gratia” means “only grace.” (In other words, His Grace is all I got.) http://apple.co/2CaVbMw
*If you want to hear more about my own personal tragedy, listen to the previous episode, where I talk about losing our second adopted daughter, sweet Kajal- ep 49. http://apple.co/2ASRivo
