Welcome to Week 3 of 21 Days of Prayer. The theme for this, our last week is “God Will Be Glorified.” We’re on Day 16 which is entitled “Infinite Beauty.”
Today’s reading on beauty reminded me of something Martin Luther said. I read it on
the Crossway blog, I believe… I’ll link to it once I remember whose article.
Found it- of course, it was Rosaria Butterfield’s article… (I’m always quoting something she said.)
So in this article, Rosaria quotes Martin Luther who addressed the believers of his day during the Bubonic Plague in the year 1527. He told Christians that while the world instructs everyone to run and hide from the plague, the Lord calls us to remain and help the community.
There’s a picture of beauty. Like Mr. Rogers said, “Always look for the helpers.”
And YOU, my sister, my brother in Christ, God can shine in beautiful ways through you. This
could be your finest hour. It doesn’t mean you have to board a medical ship and go into the
danger zone to help virus patients; for you, it might mean folding yet another load of laundry, or
wiping down all the door handles once again. Whether you’re cooking all the meals for everyone
-which can feel like an ALL day job, or you’re trading kid duty with your husband so you can get
some paperwork done… do it all as unto the Lord. He shines beautifully through you. Right
there where you are.
As our world seems to be getting smaller all the time, there’s a sense of solidarity isn’t there?
We’re all in the same boat. We’re all feeling our human frailty more than ever. It may sound crazy, but while I would never wish Lyme Disease on anyone, I believe my history with Lyme gave me some good training in that regard. I became well acquainted with my human frailty for 18 years. And even though i feel stronger physically now than ever, I’m blesssed to KNOW how limited the human body is. I was given the gift of learning from experience, how weak we really are. I didn’t know that before Lyme. In my teen years I thought I was invincible…and in my 20’s, most of my 30’s…maybe even into my 40’s.
The Lord didn’t afflict me directly, but He did allow Lyme to happen and it was misery. Just all
over …. I was humbled beyond recognition…..It really brought me to the end of myself so now I
can look back and say I gained so much, in the way of getting really crystal clear on my faith
and recalibrating my priorities… showing me that relationships mean so much more than things
and career…. and now I wouldn’t trade what I learned. Because now I’m so thankful and clearly
it’s only by His mercy that we’re/any of us are even still alive right now.

So if you want to pray to receive Jesus right now, join me; You don’t have to get your life straightened out or cleaned up. He invites you to come just as you are. I’ll lead you on today’s episode; you can just repeat after me.. Tweak it as we go to make it your own.
