Hey Love,
I’ve been dealing with fear lately. You? I’m not gonna shame you with platitudes about faith not coexisting with fear… It’s true that every time an angel shows up in the Bible, they say to the human in the story, “Don’t be afraid!”
But i believe we’re to read that not so much as a warning, but as an encouragement, like “Take heart, Dear Human. I know you’re probably afraid…. but don’t camp there in your fear because I’m here to help…”
My guest today talks about “taking up space” and “just showing up,” by learning computer skills while he was recovering from an all consuming alcohol addiction and overcoming fear. (This reminds me of something Jimmy Gentry said back in Ep 48- Be where you’re supposed to be, doing what you’re supposed to be doing; when God needs you for a special assignment, He’ll know just where to find you.”)
I’ve been afraid of many things lately. With the elections around the corner, it seems unrest is inevitable no matter what the results… I’m also afraid that no one’s gonna like my teleplay. It feels so impossibly vulnerable to be writing what i hope will be a tv pilot. What are you most afraid of?
Ryan Swanson, who’s a big time Hollywood screenwriter, has a practice that will help us move out of the fear which can consume us if we don’t learn how to name – 1) CONFESS it, 2) COMMUNE with God and others about it and 3) simplify our CHOICES.
There will be times you and I feel afraid. It’s part of the human condition. But we don’t have to camp there… Ryan reminds us there are things we can do to move through fear to the other side; FAITH takes practice. Need an Alongsider? Get in here! Karthimasters@gmail.com
Till next time,
